Polytec supported an Italian multiutility in the development of integrated electrical distribution, automation, and supervisory systems for CSS (Solid Recovered Fuel) and OFMSW (Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste) treatment plants.
These facilities play a key role in energy recovery, waste valorization, and circular economy strategies. Operating in harsh industrial environments, they required highly reliable electrical and automation infrastructures capable of ensuring operational continuity, safety, and maximum plant availability.
As the system integrator, Polytec designed and implemented a complete supervision and control ecosystem, integrating all technological packages into a single automation architecture.
The scope of supply included:
- MV/LV electrical distribution systems.
- PLC-based automation systems.
- Centralized HMI-SCADA platforms.
- Custom software for process control and plant management.
Polytec’s Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering departments managed every phase of the project, including electrical design, switchboard manufacturing, software development, testing, and commissioning.
At the core of the project was an advanced HMI-SCADA platform providing complete supervision of the entire process through a single control environment.
The system enabled:
- real-time monitoring of electrical and process parameters;
- energy consumption monitoring and load optimization;
- plant performance analysis;
- advanced alarm management and diagnostics;
- complete process data acquisition and traceability.
The integration of electrical distribution, automation, and supervisory control significantly improved plant efficiency, operational safety, and service continuity, ensuring reliable performance even under the most demanding operating conditions.
