Polytec designed, supplied, installed, and commissioned a fully automated robotic cell for the sorting of mixed natural gas cylinders stored in bulk baskets at the plant receiving area. The system combines industrial robotics, 3D machine vision, and barcode identification to automatically recognize, pick, identify, and sort cylinders into dedicated mono-type baskets while ensuring the correct valve orientation for downstream operations.
Developed to optimize material flow and reduce manual handling, the solution increases productivity, improves traceability, and provides a scalable platform for future quality inspection functions.
A key success factor of the project is the 3D machine vision system, specifically selected to accurately detect, distinguish, and calculate the position of randomly stored cylinders inside bulk baskets.
