o support the growing demand for productivity, welding quality, and automation in shipbuilding, Polytec developed a fully automated robotized gantry welding system for the fabrication of naval hull sections. The solution automates the welding of profiles and reinforcement elements onto steel plates, integrating robotics, mechatronics, machine vision, and advanced motion control into a single high-performance production cell.
The process begins with the automatic identification and alignment of plates and profiles through integrated vision systems. Robot-mounted 3D scanners accurately acquire the welding paths, compensating for dimensional tolerances and ensuring perfect alignment with the production geometry. Based on the acquired data, the gantry system automatically positions the anthropomorphic welding robots along the X, Y, X1, and Z axes before executing the complete welding cycle. Designed for demanding shipbuilding environments, the portal guarantees repeatable weld quality while significantly reducing manual intervention. All robotic operations take place inside protected work areas equipped with extraction and filtration systems, creating a safer and cleaner working environment for operators.
By combining advanced automation with intelligent vision technologies, Polytec delivers a solution that increases production capacity, improves weld consistency, and supports the digital transformation of modern shipyards.
